MISSION STATEMENT
It is the Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy's mission to provide students and graduates with the support needed to be a success
in the field of Massage Therapy. This support is in the form of:
Knowledge:
Education that will help a graduate maintain a successful therapeutic massage practice and will teach the Student how to be a
successful Massage Therapist through business skills and physiological techniques. To give opportunities for ongoing education
through seminars which allow for therapists to advance in their massage profession.
Advice:
Always being available to answer questions that students and/or graduates may have.
Encouragement:
Always being available for support when students and/or graduates need someone to talk to about their personal or business lives.
To give the encouragement that is needed to optimize their potential in the field of Massage Therapy.
VISION
The vision of the Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy is to have an Institute that emphasizes a curriculum based on the physiological
aspects of Massage Therapy, while informing the students of the many adjunct therapies. In this way the student will be empowered to work
within the health care community on an equal footing of other healthcare providers.
LICENSE
Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools and maintains contact
with the state to ensure that all regulations are followed appropriately. The Pennsylvania State regulations currently do not include licensure
for Massage Practitioners; however, Pennsylvania is on the verge of introducing state licensure for Massage Therapists and will require 600
hours of massage education. Until licensing for Massage Therapy is passed, several communities within the state have local ordinances and
may have specific requirements concerning the operation of a Massage Facility. Regulations vary from state to state.
OBJECTIVES
This program provides the student with the knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pathology, Massage Theory and
Massage Techniques necessary to effectively practice Massage Therapy. Students are thoroughly educated in the aspects of Swedish
Massage as well as advanced therapeutic deep muscle techniques and introduced to a variety of adjunct modalities. This program will provide
the therapists with the necessary tools and encouragement to continue their education. It will teach the therapists how to promote themselves
and the massage profession as well as having a caring attitude.
Upon completion of the course graduates will be qualified to work with other health care professionals as a Massage Therapist. They will know
how to process clients/patients, write progress reports, and how to communicate with the patients as well as the health care providers. The
therapists will know how to identify contraindications and know when and how to refer clients to another health care provider.
Upon completion of the course, the graduate will have sufficient knowledge and skills to be qualified to take the National Certification
Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork to become Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB).

HISTORY
Dr. Tosh, along with his wife Terry, purchased the Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy in February 1994. Since that time, the school has
grown substantially including the size of the facility, the size of the student body, the size of the faculty & staff, and in reputation. PIMT was
originally located in one of the four suites it is currently occupying. The expansion came in 1996 after it was apparent that the single suite was no
longer adequate for the size of the school. The school therefore expanded into the adjoining suite, which consequently gave the institute more
room for instruction and offices, and also enabled the institute to offer seminars to the area therapists. In the fall of 2000, PIMT expanded again into
the next adjoining suite. As a result, a larger massage classroom was added as well as a student lounge. The school has recently expanded into an
additional suite.
