Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology Program

It is the firm belief at PIMT that a very good comprehension of Anatomy and Physiology is necessary for a Massage Therapist to be effective in the field. When working on the body, it is necessary to know how the body works. Our Anatomy and Physiology is one of the most in-depth programs in the area. The Anatomy and Physiology Program goes beyond that which is taught in Anatomy and Physiology I and II which is offered at local colleges.

The Anatomy and Physiology curriculum is nicely interwoven with the Massage curriculum to present it in such a way as to make it relevant to Massage Therapy. Since the PIMT student body is comprised of people with varied educational backgrounds, the curriculum is taught incrementally. This enables the novice to effectively learn, and the student with a background in Anatomy and Physiology to be substantially challenged by the material presented. Each section involves instruction concerning its relevance to Massage Therapy as well as any relevant pathology. At PIMT we firmly believe that the Massage Therapists is an active member of the Healthcare Community, and as such, must understand how they are altering the physiology of the body through massage. This knowledge enables the Therapist to identify any potential contraindications to massage, and allows the informed Therapist to modify their procedure if indicated.
